The taxanes are a group of substances derived from the yew tree that are used in chemotherapy. The two most common are paclitaxel and docetaxel. Some are now usually artificially synthesized. They work by preventing the formation of microtubules for cell division.

Taxanes are difficult to use as pharmaceuticals because they do not dissolve well in water.
