Somatostatin is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus, stomach, intestines and pancreas. It generally inhibits the action of other hormones and is involved in the regulation of neurotransmitters, cell growth and blood sugar, among other functions.

Synthetic somatostatin analogues are used to treat conditions such as acromegaly, carcinoid syndrome and other conditions caused by unregulated hormones.
