Silver sulfadiazine is an antibacterial used as an ingredient in skin creams to stop infection of burns. However, its effectiveness is under serious review, although it is listed on the World Health Organization's list of essential medicines.

It does have manageable side effects, including a short-lived burning sensation when first applied. However, as it is not very water soluble, it doesn't penetrate the skin and as such poses no risk of toxicity.
