Schizoid personality disorder is a personality disorder characterized by a preference to be let alone and the avoidance of intimate personal relationships.  It can be best described as an extreme case of a person with an introverted personality.  In addition to having few relationships with either friends of family, schizoid patients tend to be passive in adverse situations.  However, many people with the disorder often have well developed interests and can have relationships with those who share these interests if there is no expectation of intimacy.
