Ribavirin is an anti-viral drug.  It works by preventing viruses from replicating their RNA.  It is most often used for severe RSV infection, but is also used to treat hepatitis C, hemmhoragic fevers such as Lassa fever and influenza.  Administered early enough, it can slow the progress of rabies.

Ribavirin must be used carefully as it's primary side effect is anemia because it is absorbed, but not excreted, by red blood cells.
