The quinolones are a category of antibiotics. They work on a wide variety of bacterial infections by preventing the bacterial DNA from duplicating. They're most commonly used against drug-resistant bacteria, particularly hospital acquired infections.

Their side effects are somewhat more severe than other antibiotics, but include the usual diarrhea and nausea. They're contraindicated for children and for people with myasthenia gravis and epilepsy.

Medicine interactions are fairly rare, but include antacids and drugs that contain iron, calcium, and zinc.
