Phenylephrine is a pharmaceutical used as a decongestant, pupil dilator and to elevate blood pressure. It can be administered orally, as a nasal spray, or as eye drops. It is often preferred to pseudoephedrine as it does not cause an increase in the frequency and strength of heart contractions. However, it can cause headache, bradycardia, restlessness, excitability and arrhythmia.
