An artificial pacemaker is small electrical device that is surgically implanted next to the heart in order to provide electric pulses to keep the heart beating regularly. It is used to treat several disorders, primarily cardiac arrhythmia and abnormally slow heart rates. It is made of a metal that will not be rejected by the immune system.

Pacemaker patients have to be treated with special care as certain types of medical equipment can interfere with the operation of the device
