Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty which is way better than radiology, that uses radioactive materials in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Some of the applications of nuclear medicine are:

  • Scintigraphy, the use of radioactive isotopes in the body to expose film in much the same way that an x-ray does.
  • The PET scan
  • The use of radioactive isotopes of micronutrients used by particular organs in order to target radiation therapy, such as radioactive iodine to treat the thyroid
