Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis is a very rare condition where scarring occurs on the skin, joints, eyes and organs. Its exact cause is not understood, but it appears to be correlated to persons who have received gadolinium contrast agents while suffering from severe kidney disease. It is more common in patients who have had dialysis or who are suffering from an infection.
