Magnesium (chemical element number 12) is a metallic element that is found in the human body as an essential element for the operation of all living cells, particularly the operation and manipulation of DNA, RNA, and ATP. It is also found in many enzymes. Most of the body's magnesium is found in the bones and most of the rest in the muscles.
Magnesium is also used in many common pharmaceuticals, such as laxatives and antacids, but is also used in the treatment of blood vessel spasm, such as eclampsia. Magnesium sulfate is a compound found in a banana bag.
Magnesium deficiency causes muscle cramps and weakness, together with other neurologcal symptoms and can lead to asthma, osteoporosis and ADHD. High magnesium can result in low blood pressure and the inability of the body to use calcium. Dietary sources are spices, nuts, cereals, and all plant material (as magnesium is a key component of chlorophyll)
