Levetiracetam is an anticonvulsant. It is usually used to treat epilepsy.It can be used alone for mild seizures, or as part of a pharmaceutical regimen for more serious seizures. Although it has been studied for use in the treatment of other conditions, its side effects can be serious and include drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, headache, anxiety, irritability and mood changes. In some cases, it has caused depression, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. It should be avoided with pregnancy and the elderly.
