The inner ear is that part of each ear behind the eardrum. It contains the cochlea, which is responsible for the sense of hearing, and the semi-circular ducts which aid in balance. It is connected to the throat through the eustachian tube which allows air pressure on both sides of the eardrum to be equalized.
