Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of autoimmune conditions that cause intestinal symptoms. The two most common are Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. More rarely, the symptoms are caused by Behcet's disease or one of several types of colitis.

Treatment focuses on management of the underlying condition and is highly dependent on the underlying cause. The conditions are rarely fatal, and can usually be managed.
