IgA nephropathy is a form of kidney failure caused by the accumulation of IgA antibodies in structures of the kidneys.  It is usually secondary to an infection or Henoch-Schönlein Purpura.  It has a variable course.  It can be mild, slow to progress and self-resolving, or it can progress rapidly and result in acute kidney failure.
