Hypoglycemia is a hormone disorder where the key hormone that restricts the uptake of glucose into cells. As a result, when a patient does not eat, the cells keep absorbing glucose and blood sugar drops to lower and lower levels. In extreme cases, a patient can lapse into a coma.
Hypoglycemia can be treated by ensuring that a patient take regular meals to keep up their blood sugar level and by eating foods that take a longer time to break down into sugars.
