Fluconazole is an anti-fungal, used in the treatment of fungal and other infections such as BlastomycosisCandidaCryptococcus neoformans and histoplasmosis.

Fluconazole works by preventing the formation of an enzyme used by most fungi in the process of creating cytoplasmic membranes.

Fungi will usually develop resistance to fluconazole and related drugs, so their use in treating immunocompromised patients, such as those with AIDS, is of only short-term effectiveness.
