Ephedrine is a pharmaceutical that is used as a stimulant, decongestant and diet pill. It is chemically similar to amphetamines and methamphetamines. It works by increasing the activity of norepinephrine.
It has several side effects including tachycardia, arrythmia, flushing, sweating, nausea, restlessness and insomnia. It must be avoided altogether for patients with a number of diseases, including high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus.
