In human reproduction, the egg cell is the cell created in the female ovary which carries one set of 23 chromosomes and a collection of nutrients for early growth.  If it meets up with a sperm cell, it becomes a zygote.

Unlike the sperm cell, the egg cell is incapable of independent motion, and essentially "rides" the fallopian tube to the uterus.
