Drug samples are small packages of pharmaceuticals provided to physicians, clinics and hospitals free of charge by pharmaceutical companies for distribution in similarly small quantities to patients. In most cases, they are a newly released product for a common ailment. They can be either prescription or non-prescription (over the counter) medications. Pharmaceutical companies provide them to build goodwill for their product, and physicians use them so that patients will not have to spend a large amount of money on a product that may not work well for them.
