Chuck came to the clinc because of sneezing, nasal congestion and coughing. He was seen by Gregory House. Dr. House noted Chuck was well dressed, had a nice watch, and was carrying an expensive MP3 player. He told Chuck he had figured out he didn't have health insurance because he came to a free clinic. He then asked Chuck to listen to his own breath sounds through a stethoscope. Chuck heard the sounds like crumpling paper.
Dr. House then told Chuck about a hypothetical patient named "Buck". Buck had come to the clinic and been diagnosed with ideopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which meant he needed a lung transplant. However, Buck didn't have health insurance to pay the $500,000 cost. Now that it had been diagnosed, he would not qualify for health insurance. Chuck rushed out of the clinic.
Stacy Warner had watched the conversation and asked Dr. House if that wasn't a poor way to tell a patient he had a serious and possibly terminal diagnosis. However, Dr. House had realized Chuck only had a common cold, but due to the scare, would soon have health insurance like he was supposed to.
