A bromide is any chemical compound containing bromine. Bromides were once commonly used as sedatives in over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, but were discontinued in the 1970s due to long term toxicity. However, they are still used in some veterinary medicines.

Naturally occurring bromides are a key component of eosinophils, which use them to poison parasites.
