When the team diagnosed Lucy Palmeiro with a liver tumor, they soon realized it was too large under the surgical guidelines for a surgeon to risk removing it. To fool the surgeon, they injected the tumor with ethanol to shrink it. They then hid the larger measurement from the chart.
Dr. Bergin was assigned to do the surgery. However, immediately after he made the incision, he detected the ethanol and realized what House had done. Nevertheless, he completed the surgery despite the increased risk. However, he made it clear to Cameron that if House tried it again, he would close the patient right up.
