Acamprosate is a pharmaceutical used to treat alcoholism by lessening the withdrawal symptoms. It works in much the same manner as naloxone. It works best with psychiatric and social support. It does have several serious side effects, such as allergic reactions, arrhythmia, change in blood pressure and adverse effects on the kidneys. It can also cause headaches, insomnia and erectile dysfunction.
